For new and renewed R2 certifications amid COVID disruptions

It's not what you'd expect.
Contrary to what you might think, the remote audits sometimes required these days actually take longer than onsite audits. This is mainly because of the lag caused by procuring evidence virtually from the R2 facility, versus traditional onsite audits where all evidence is collected in one trip.
Per the new SERI regulations, virtual audits are to be conducted as follows.
Virtual tour via FaceTime, Skype or Google Glasses
Video interviews of selected personnel
Electronic transmission of evidence to the auditor for analysis
Note that video review of records is not permitted
Records should be sent in an electronic copy attached to the audit report
Due the large volume of information needed, file-sharing services such as Google Drive, OneDrive or Dropbox are recommended
Something else to note is that these remote audits only apply to R2 surveillance audits, so if you’re getting certified for the first time or recertified, it will need to be on site with all of the proper precautions taken, ensuring to follow up-to-date CDC recommendations.
Sounds complicated.
If this all sounds complicated, that’s because it is – and we’ve only just scratched the surface. This is where an R2 certified consultant can come in handy. They have years of experience with these types of audits and have already processed countless of the new virtual audits.
