Kyle Wong
EHS & Security Manager, Re-Tek

Kyle Wong is the EHS and Security Manager at Re-Tek, a reverse supply chain management company based in Grand Prairie, Texas.

Kyle Wong has been in the e-waste and reuse industry for a decade now.  However, it’s fair to say that he stumbled into it, rather than seek it out intentionally.  You see, Kyle majored in statistics and computer science at Stony Brook University, so a role in Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) was not on his radar.

“It’s a long story,” says Kyle, as he reflects on his journey into an EHS role.  Kyle’s first job out of college was as a data scientist at an e-waste company.  And then the EHS manager at that company resigned.  And this resignation came at a very inopportune time because the company was going through a certificate audit period.  Kyle’s manager asked him to step in and help.  Kyle was willing to help, but he was honest that he knew nothing about EHS.  So, they brought in an EHS consultant to help guide Kyle through the process.  Kyle learned a lot from that consultant.  As the company started branching out into obtaining more certification, IBEC, Inc. came in to guide and advise.

Kyle Wong established a deep and trusting relationship with IBEC, Inc. and its Founder and President Bardia Vahidi.  In fact, literally every day, Kyle works with documentation that IBEC, Inc. has created for his current organization, Re-Tek.  This documentation comes in very handy on a daily basis, and guides Kyle in how to handle a number of situations, including incident reports, staff injuries, and other things.

Kyle says that Bardia has taught him a lot about excelling in an EHS role.  Bardia Vahidi has also been very instrumental in introducing Re-Tek to other very knowledgeable auditors.  At this point, Kyle Wong and Bardia Vahidi have been collaborating for a long time, and Kyle continues learning from Bardia.  Kyle deeply values Bardia’s expertise, professionalism, and collaborative style.

Kyle Wong emphasizes that willingness to learn is a key aspect of succeeding in an EHS role.  It’s a constantly evolving industry, and has huge opportunities for growth.

Kyle has grown to love his EHS role, and thinks that the prospects for growth in EHS are great.  Kyle also has a very strong sense of mission, and likes following the mandates of the R2 Standard.  After all, the R2 Standard pushes all e-waste to be reused.  This means that over time there will be more e-waste organizations.  This is a growth industry with a bright outlook for career growth for EHS experts.

Kyle is a hard worker with a sense of urgency.  He has a bias for action, and does not like deferring decisions and actions to the future as he does not like doing things at the last minute.  Kyle values responsiveness.  He says that Bardia Vahidi knows his work style very well, and is very effective in helping him navigate through the requisite deadlines.  Kyle Wong takes his role very seriously, and is focused on driving excellence in everything he does.  Kyle likes to keep busy, and is intent in using his time effectively, scheduling everything.  In turn, this helps Re-Tek be more effective.  Kyle Wong believes that his partnership with IBEC, Inc. and Bardia Vahidi is an instrumental part of his continued success.

Ever the responsible person, Kyle takes the same organized approach to his free time.  He likes scheduling events and games with his friends, particularly playing basketball.  Kyle Wong also likes hanging out with his wife.
